Welcome to the apple club! You join a host of other beautiful, stylish apples, like Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Kate Winslet, and Melissa McCarthy.
Apple: You have a large bust and a full midsection - but your shoulders and hips may be slightly narrower. The top of your hip is wider than your lower hip. Apples usually have slender lower legs and arms and are short-waisted.
There are general guidelines and tricks for creating balance and proportions when dressing each body type. There may be some areas you want to emphasize more, and other areas you want to detract from in order to create balance and proportion. Your choice and placement of color, texture, pattern, accessories, etc determine where the eye is drawn and how proportioned your body appears. However, these are only tips and you ultimately get to decide where you want the focal point of your outfit to be.

Tips for Apples

The apple body shape can appear top-heavy with a full chest and upper body with minimal waist definition. To balance out the upper body, highlight your best parts - usually the bust and/or legs by choosing clothes that add curves and fullness to the lower body.

Do:

  • Keep the clothing line straight to slightly fitted but fabric soft so you avoid unnecessary bulk around the bust, waist, and stomach
  • Wear bright colors and patterns on your lower body and darker colors on the top half.

Avoid:

  • Details around bust, waist, and hips.
  • Bulky materials at the waistline
